YouTube.com/Fashion released programming Tuesday focused on Black leaders in fashion as part of its broader commitment to amplify Black voices and perspectives.

The platform spotlights 12 designers and fashion industry leaders, including Virgil Abloh, Grace Wales Bonner, Naomi Campbell, Stella Jean, Jerry Lorenzo, Adebayo Oke-Lawal, Kenneth Nicholson, Tremaine Emory, Laduma Ngxokolo, Andrea Iyamah, Samuel Ross and Felisha Noel, and includes runway shows, films, interviews and behind-the-scenes content.

The programming can be found on a dedicated shelf on the fashion homepage, and is part of larger partnership efforts to elevate Black fashion leaders and grow their YouTube presence.

Netflix ends free trials in the US

Netflix has ended free trials for new customers in the US, after years of giving away the first month of its service free. The streaming service’s US sign-up page said trials are no longer available, with Netflix instead touting how it lets you cancel anytime at not cost.

“We’re looking at different marketing promotions in the United States to attract new members and give them a great Netflix experience,” a Netflix spokeswoman said Tuesday. The end of free trials in the US was reported earlier Tuesday by TV Answer Man.

PC sales remain on the upswing thanks to purchases made to support remote workers and learners. And it looks as if there’s still a lot of pent-up demand going into the holiday season.

Research firm IDC estimates PC shipments rose 14.6% annually in Q3 to 81.3 million. That compares with 11.2% shipment growth in Q2, and just 2.7% growth in 2019.

Officially, Gartner estimates PC shipments rose just 3.6% to 71.4 million. However, when including Chromebook sales (counted in IDC’s official estimate), Gartner’s estimate for shipment growth rises to 9%.

Along with Chromebooks, Q3 was a strong quarter for gaming PCs and (in certain cases) notebooks with cellular modems, according to IDC. On the flip side, desktop demand was said to be weak in the U.S. and EMEA. Desktop PC sales depend heavily on purchases made to support corporate offices, many of which are of course empty right now.

Dropbox is going remote — permanently. 

The cloud storage company announced Tuesday it will allow all employees to work from home going forward. The shift comes after an internal survey found nearly 90% of Dropbox workers said they are more productive at home.

“Starting today, Dropbox is becoming a Virtual First company,” the company said in a blog post. “Remote work (outside an office) will be the primary experience for all employees and the day-to-day default for individual work.”
