Microsoft Edge has declared battle with its biggest rival Google Chrome with a bunch of excellent new features for businesses and consumers.

Microsoft Edge browser is growing in popularity—it’s number two to Google’s Chrome. Now, Edge is hoping to further grow its market share with the launch of a plethora of new features.

So, what’s new? Many of the Edge features are aimed at making shopping online easier and more private in the run up to the holiday season as most people shun the shops due to coronavirus.

In a blog, Microsoft detailed new Edge features including price comparison in Collections to help you find the best deals. You can use this in Edge by adding a product to a Collection

Last week, I virtually attended ONES 2020, the Linux Foundation’s Open Networking and Edge Summit. I was impressed with the diversity of content at ONES this year, and appreciated the added emphasis on edge (which was the impetus for adding the “E” to the conference name—if you’ve never heard of the event, it’s because it was previously called ONS). Today I would like to highlight what I consider the most compelling announcements and takeaways from the jam-packed 3-day event.

Google Cloud announcement

The major public cloud providers have been chasing the telco space in a big way as of late. Amazon Web Services (AWS) has led in many ways, offering service providers platforms such as Wavelength to supercharge 5G deployments with edge computing infrastructure. The Microsoft Azure team is snapping up companies to shore up its capabilities as well.

Microsoft has announced general availability of its new Microsoft Edge Tools for VS Code extension, which lets developers embed Edge’s browser developer tools into Microsoft’s popular cross-platform code editor.

The new extension allows developers to use Edge’s built-in Elements and Network tool from within Microsoft’s Visual Studio Code (VS Code) to fix styling, layout, and CSS issues with a site.

The idea is to bring Edge’s tools to VS Code so developers don’t need to switch between the editor and browser when moving from development to debugging tasks.

Microsoft says the new extension simplifies developers’ workflow by changing the way users can launch an instance of Edge to debug. Users can now connect to an existing browser instance, start a new one or a headless browser that lacks a browser window and has no icon in the task bar.

Microsoft Edge to get a web screenshot utility

September 29, 2020 | technology | No Comments

Microsoft Edge will soon get support for a web capture utility that will allow browser users to take screenshots of web pages.

Called “Web capture,” the new screenshotting tool is currently being tested in Edge Insider channels (Edge Dev and Edge Canary builds) before being added to the main Edge browser.

The feature isn’t new. The initial version of Edge, built on Microsoft’s proprietary EdgeHTML engine, supported a web capture utility.

The new screenshot tool being added now is a port of the old feature, but for Microsoft’s new Chromium-based Edge browser.

To use the new web capture utility, users have four methods at their disposal.

1. Keybpard shortcut: CTRL+Shift+S

2. Right-click menu -> Web capture

Around the globe, economies are beginning to reopen in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. The world is surveying the rubble left behind by the pandemic, and is turning its attention towards how to rebuild. Some industries have been hit harder than others– the road to recovery for global tourism, for example, will be a long one. Others have, perhaps against expectations, thrived. Just look to the largely cash-dependent MENA region, which has seen a near unprecedented surge in the uptake of e-commerce, digital banking, and fintech more broadly as consumers adapted fast to life in lockdown and quarantine.
