LOS ANGELES, Oct. 8, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The Music Center today announced it received a $25 million gift from Tina and Jerry Moss to benefit new programming initiatives. With this gift, the arts organization will establish an annual, free summer concert, open to all, to be held outdoors on the newly named Jerry Moss Plaza, located at The Music Center; sustain and enhance The Music Center’s commitment to free and low-cost events; and formally launch arts partnerships with community organizations to help uplift artists and their work, with an emphasis on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC ) artists. The deadline to register to vote in Florida in the upcoming November election is midnight on Oct. 5, 2020, but some voters are having trouble registering online.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — As Floridians rushed to meet the midnight deadline to register to vote in the November election, some ran into problems accessing the state’s voter registration website.

Just before 6 p.m., Secretary of State Laurel Lee tweeted that the online voter registration website was working.

“Due to high volume, for about 15 minutes, some users experienced delays while trying to register. We have increased capacity. You can register until midnight tonight,” Lee tweeted. “Thank you to those who immediately brought this to our attention.”

But an hour later, some voters still had problems accessing the website and received error messages.

Oct. 5 is the final day for Floridians to register to be eligible to vote Nov. 3; and just hours before the deadline, the state’s website is experiencing issues.

Registertovoteflorida.gov is the official website Floridians can use to register to vote ahead of the general election. Multiple reports have surfaced of users being unable to access the site or of people experiencing a slow response from the website.

The official cut off to register to vote in Florida is 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 5. 

10 Tampa Bay has reached out to election officials for more information about the situation but has not yet received a response. However, Florida Secretary of State Laurel M. Lee confirmed there had been problems Monday evening. According to her, those issues were linked to a high volume of people trying to register at once.

Florida’s online voter registration system appeared to encounter problems Monday evening, with only hours to go before the registration deadline for the 2020 general election.

Some Floridians attempting to access RegistertovoteFlorida.gov found slow responses or error messages.

Florida Secretary of State Laurel Lee, who oversees the elections website, tweeted just before 6 p.m. that some users had “experienced delays while trying to register” due to high volume on the site. In the tweet, Lee said the state had increased capacity and that the problem had only occurred for about 15 minutes.

However, a Times reporter could not access the site on their mobile phone after Laurel’s tweet was sent out or an hour later.

A spokesman for the Florida Department of State did not immediately respond to a voicemail and email sent just after 6 p.m.
