Holiday 2020 will be an extended shopping season starting with Amazon’s

Prime Day on October 13th and 14th. Many other retailers will be following suit to compete for the customer’s dollars over the two-day period. Last year Amazon Prime Day raked in $6.93 billion worldwide from 124 million U.S. Prime users (up almost 11% from the previous year). For 2020, the projections are sales of $9.91 billion worldwide from more than 142 million U.S. users, surpassing 50% of the US population.

As shoppers prepare to welcome Halloween, the Black Friday deals have already arrived.

Major retailers including Target, Best Buy and Walmart are offering Black Friday prices at the same time as Amazon Prime Day on Oct. 13 and 14, the e-commerce company’s two-day shopping event.

“Prime Day is a shopping holiday,” said Best Buy CEO Corie Barry in an interview with NBC News. “That means lots of people are looking for great deals during the shopping holiday and we feel like it’s really important for us to play a role.”

The holidays are right around the corner, and Netflix is about to drop some new, festive must-see shows and movies to help get you in the spirit!

Netflix’s jam-packed holiday programming begins no later than Oct. 28, with the streamer’s first release, Holidate, followed by Operation Christmas Drop on Nov. 5.

The latter stars Kat Graham, who also appeared in 2018’s Netflix Christmas rom-com The Holiday Calendar. She recently told PEOPLE that she loved the “humanitarian aspect” of this particular script.

Like everything else in the Covid-19 world, holiday shopping in 2020 will be unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

Global online sales are expected to grow 30 percent to $940 billion year over year this holiday season–up from 8 percent growth in 2019–which could help retailers make up for lost revenue during the pandemic. That’s according to Salesforce’s 2020 Holiday Forecast, a report that parsed online shopping activity of more than one billion consumers.

For retailers angling to generate as many sales as possible this holiday season, you have to be willing to possibly deploy new strategies, according to Rob Garf, vice president of industry strategy and insights at Salesforce. “Businesses that succeed during the holidays will use everything at their disposal to make shopping easy and safe, including convenient digital ordering, creative and effective fulfillment, and responsive customer service,” said Garf, during a virtual press briefing to discuss the forecast

Chuseok, commonly known as the Korean equivalent of Thanksgiving, falls on October 1 this year. Broadcasting stations will air special programming in celebration, and cast and crew will also be taking time off for the holiday, resulting in various television schedule changes.

KBS2’s “A Man in a Veil” will not air on October 1 and 2 as well as “Music Bank” on October 2. Special Chuseok variety shows such as “Virtual Marketplace” and the film “E.X.I.T” will be broadcast instead.

While we await the National Retail Federation’s holiday retail forecast – which will come any day – Deloitte and Forrester are out with their predictions for holiday 2020 and year-end.

Big Four accounting firm Deloitte has a “glass half full” view, expecting a rise in holiday retail sales between 1% to 1.5%. On the other hand, market research firm Forrester looks and sees the glass half empty, with retail sales declining 2.5% for the full year.  

Despite their differing forecasts, both firms are firm about one thing: this will be the year when online shopping explodes.
