The steady beat of the Doomsday Clock that has been tick, tick, ticking away in the background of the TikTok acquisition drama is echoing a little less loudly this morning.
TikTok can still be downloaded in America today after a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction yesterday that prevented the Trump Administration from forcing Google GOOGL and Apple AAPL to remove TikTok from their app stores. The decision handed down in U.S. District Court came around 8:30 p.m., less than four hours from the midnight deadline that would’ve commenced the ban. Some lucky American can still become, approximately, the 2,500,000,0001th person in the world to download the app. (Those zeroes are not typos; the app, the hottest thing in consumer technology right now, crossed the 2 billion-download mark in April.)
