A Seattle-based nonprofit launched to provide digital health solutions for poorer countries is applying its expertise to help with COVID-19 testing.

Audere is building software for administering rapid result COVID tests that can be integrated into products being developed by U.S. manufacturers that use saliva or nasal swab samples.

“There is a critical need for rapid testing,” said Philip Su, CEO and founder of Audere. People are increasingly realizing that the widespread distribution of a vaccine is still many months away. The availability of accurate, inexpensive tests that provide results in minutes can help control the spread of the virus in the meantime, Su said.

A study of business leaders by PwC has found that the role of chief information security officers (CISOs) have grown considerably due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with 40% saying they’re now having to fill both an operational role and the role of a digital transformation leader.

One of the major reasons CISOs are being pushed so hard could be because PwC found 40% of businesses have sped up digital transformation efforts due to pandemic shutdowns, with many having already advanced to year two or three of their five-year transformation plans.

CONNECTICUT — Connecticut will soon get around 69,000 new Abbott Labs rapid coronavirus test kits from the federal government. They could be a potential game-changer for helping to avoid unnecessary school closures, especially as the state enters the late fall and winter months when colds and other respiratory infections are more common.

The rapid tests can be done on-site and give results in 15 minutes.

Connecticut will also roll out the Apple/Google developed contact tracing app as another tool to help reduce coronavirus transmission.
