I’m fairly sure cars were supposed to be flying by now, but instead we’ve managed something else that would have felt like science fiction a decade ago: playing Xbox games on your fridge. That’s right, someone has managed to get Microsoft’s xCloud service running on a Samsung smart fridge.

Instagram user Richard Mallard has managed this feat of modern engineering, sideloading the Android version of the Xbox Game Pass app onto his fridge. The app runs in portrait mode on Samsung’s smart fridge, but games appear at the correct aspect ratio alongside cheese, beers, and whatever other essentials you store in a fridge.

Keeping with the tradition of running Doom games on unusual hardware, Mallard picked Doom Eternal, a modern installment in the series. We’ve even seen Doom running inside Minecraft recently. Doom Eternal is also the first first game to arrive on Xbox Game Pass following Microsoft’s acquisition

If you’re playing Fortnite on a recent Samsung tablet, you could soon find that the game is a much more fluid experience. From October 13, the Tab S7 and Tab S7+ will be able to run Fortnite at a boosted framerate, reaching up to 90FPS.

This feature, which was previously exclusive to OnePlus devices, means that these phones will have the smoothest possible version of Fortnite. Of course, due to a current legal battle, Fortnite currently isn’t available to download or update on many mobile devices–but Tab S7 owners can still jump in with players across PC and consoles.

Fortnite has previously been playable at 60FPS on mobile devices.

The Samsung Galaxy Store is currently the only mobile store that you can download Fortnite through. The Tab S7 and S7+ are Samsung’s newest Tab devices, sporting a 120Hz screen and a powerful mobile chipset.

Fortnite is also coming to Series

Amazon Prime Day 2020 officially starts up on Tuesday, Oct. 13 — the same day Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 12. While you’re not going to find any discounts on the new iPhone on Amazon, you could very well see some slashed prices on older models like the iPhone 11, along with deals on plenty of phones from other major manufacturers.

Last year, Prime Day meant deep discounts on flagship phones like the Moto Z3 Play, the Samsung Galaxy S10 and the Google Pixel 3XL. Amazon has already trotted out a bunch of sales before Prime Day officially starts, and during this stretch of time, everything from Alexa devices to laptops and TVs is discounted.

Samsung Electronics flagged a leap of nearly 60 percent in third-quarter operating profits Thursday, as its mobile and chip business were boosted by US sanctions against its Chinese rival Huawei.

The South Korean tech giant said in an earnings estimate that it expected operating profit to reach 12.3 trillion won ($10.6 billion) for July to September, up from 7.8 trillion won in the same period last year.

The prediction would represent the firm’s biggest operating profit of any quarter for two years and was also ahead of analyst forecasts.

Samsung Electronics is crucial to South Korea’s economic health. It is the flagship subsidiary of the giant Samsung group, by far the largest of the family-controlled conglomerates known as chaebols that dominate business in the world’s 12th-largest economy.

Its overall turnover is equivalent to a fifth of the country’s gross domestic product.

James Kang, senior analyst at Euromonitor International Korea, said

SINGAPORE — Samsung Electronics said Thursday its profit for the three months that ended in September likely rose 58% from a year ago.

Operating profit for the quarter likely came in at 12.3 trillion Korean won (about $10.6 billion) up from 7.78 trillion won a year ago, Samsung said in its earnings guidance. That was higher than the 10.5 trillion analysts predicted for the September quarter, according to Refinitiv SmartEstimate.

Consolidated sales were approximately 66 trillion won for the quarter, up about 6.5% from a year ago.

Though the company did not provide a breakdown on how each business unit performed, some analysts previously predicted the September quarter results would be driven by an uptick in smartphone sales in the second
