SEATTLE — Washington state officials said Monday they were again unsuccessful at live-tracking a “murder” hornet while trying to find and destroy a nest of the giant insects.

The Washington State Department of Agriculture said an entomologist used dental floss to tie a tracking device on a female hornet, only to lose signs of her when she went into a forest.

The hornet was captured Oct. 5 and kept alive with strawberry jam, which she seemed to enjoy, said Sven Spichiger, a department entomologist.

Scientists then tied a tracking device onto her body and released her two days later onto an apple tree. They lost track of her after she went through some blackberry bushes, though officials believe the tracker was still attached at the time of its last signal.

“This one was a lot feistier,” Spichiger said.

A total of 18 hornets have been found in the state since

The next big milestone for 5G in the US is set to arrive tomorrow when Apple announces its rumored first 5G iPhones. The announcement, while still just a rumor, seems even more likely than ever given Apple teased its event with an invite that read “Hi, Speed.”

But when it comes to 5G in the US, the situation is still not perfectly clear. Over the last few weeks, CNET has been looking at how Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T’s various 5G networks are performing in several states and cities across the country. While this testing is still ongoing, despite the fact that we’re well over a year into the new 5G era, performance on all three major US carriers is still very much a work in progress with experiences that could vary greatly based on where you live.

Tim Cook kicks off Apple’s virtual launch event in September from the company’s Cupertino, California, campus.

The camera for Apple’s iPad and Watch event last month zoomed around the spaceship-shaped headquarters, inspirational, thumping orchestral music playing as it rose up to meet the clear blue sky and shining sun before dropping down to a transition shot to find CEO Tim Cook walking the glass-lined halls of the corporate HQ. A large free-standing rainbow sculpture could be seen off on the right, in the center of Apple Park. With the invites for Apple’s Oct. 13 event out, you can anticipate the same kind of spectacle for the upcoming iPhone 12.

In other words, picture perfect.

It’s the kind of polish you’d expect from Apple, which spares no expense when it comes to

A voter exits the polling precinct after casting their ballot in Florida’s primary election at Precinct 321 on Aug. 18, 2020 in Tampa, Fla.

The decision came hours after voters across the state encountered problems with the registration website, registertovoteflorida.gov, as the clock ticked toward the initial deadline on Monday.

“We are working with local Supervisors of Elections and the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to ensure that all eligible registrants have the ability to submit a voter registration application by 7:00 pm this evening,” Secretary of State Laurel Lee said in a public notice released Tuesday afternoon.

According to Lee, the website was inundated with over a million requests per hour in the final hours before the midnight deadline.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — With less than a month to go before the general election, a computer problem is causing issues for Pennsylvania voters.

According to the state, this outage began late Saturday.

The outage is impacting multiple state agencies including the Department of State, which oversees voting and election materials.

Pennsylvania’s Secretary of State says this is due to an issue with contractors equipment, and there’s no evidence of malicious interference. All its data is backed up.

Many of the Department of State’s election-related and professional licensing services are affected, including online voter registration and the online application for mail in ballots.

The state’s Secretary of Administration says they are working around the clock to get this problem solved.

The online portal launched Thursday, TV station WAVY reported. It will allow users to submit and track requests under the state’s Freedom of Information Act.

“Public record, subpoena, and discovery requests have been steadily increasing in recent years,” Col. Gary T. Settle, Virginia State Police superintendent, said in a statement. “This new online records management system will not only be of great benefit to requesters but also streamlines the FOIA process within our statewide agency and helps the Department to more efficiently process and respond to requests.”

Settle said the agency’s Office of Legal Affairs has received, processed and responded to more than 3,180 FOIA requests in the first nine
