  Our rich history includes developing spaceflight experiments placed on the outside of the Russian Space Station Mir during the first joint Russian/US spacewalk. This early research led to many current products and services: thermal control and conductive paints/coatings for spacecraft and terrestrial applications; laser-source simulators for seeker-readiness tests of laser-designated weapons; optical properties measurement instruments; optical properties measurement services (reflectance, emittance, SRI, LEED); paint/coating characterization; communication systems for NASA; and support of the Unified NASA Information Technology Services.

AZ Technology moves into newly built 15,500 sq ft manufacturing facility a few miles from their previous location.

In June 1, 2016 AZ Technology completed the construction of a new state-of-the-art facility for the manufacturing of instruments, the production of our line of space and terrestrial thermal control paints and the application of our line of coatings to space-flight hardware. One major advantage of the new facility is an expanded ability to handle larger pieces of hardwae in our production stream.

AZ Technology releases new Portable instrument for obtaining Solar Reflectance Index (SRI).

AZ Technology’s SRI 1000 instrument measures thermal emittance as per ASTM E408 and solar reflectance at air mass 1.5 (terrestrial applications) as per ASTM C1549.These two measurements allow the calculation of the Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) as defined for environmental certifications such as Cool Roofs and LEED. The instrument offers the accuracy and ease of use of a desktop unit with the added ability to be used as a handheld portable unit.July, 2014.


NASA Press Release: AZ Technology coating used on Curiosity Mars Rover.

“Curiosity’s paint-like spray coating, AZ-2100-IECW, was exposed to the harsh space environment for four years as part of the Materials on International Space Station Experiment (MISSE) investigation. The coating, tested and developed by AZ Technology in Huntsville, Ala., met stringent outgassing requirements and withstood temperature extremes and thousands of hours of ultraviolet radiation from the sun….AZ Technology’s coating was applied on the Multi-Mission Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator, or MMRTG. This power unit converts the heat from decaying plutonium-238 into electricity that the Curiosity rover needs to survive.”
