Following leaks that Apple will equip the iPhone 12 range with smaller batteries than their predecessors, prolific industry insider Max Weinbach has confirmed “finalized and revised” information about the models, revealing they will somehow deliver better battery life than the iPhone 11 series. This is massive news, given poor battery life is a deal breaker for many users.

Weinbach, via his PineLeaks account, states that iPhone 12 upgraders should “expect at least a 1 hour battery life increase for the Pro models”. This is a remarkable achievement considering they also have

The world is electrifying at a rapid pace and the mining industry seems to be becoming a quiet but key player in the electrification process. Tesla’s
TSLA
recent ‘Battery Day’ announcements only highlight the incredible challenges facing the electricity storage market, and raise significant questions about how the market will evolve.

We know that demand for energy storage is surging to meet increasing demand for renewable energy and electrified transport. According to Maria Xylia at Sweco Sweden, only 3% of global capacity can be currently stored and energy demand itself is expected to increase over 50% to 2050. Storage is a fundamental necessity for the integration of renewables into a smoothly running and efficient energy system, and it needs to be cost-effective, high performance and safe.

As Dr. Young-hye Na, Manager, Materials Innovations for Next-Gen Batteries, IBM Research says, “Enabling better battery energy storage will be key to a successful

Tesla’s battery day has come and gone, leaving many experts scratching their heads over what they saw. Instead of the anticipated “million mile” battery we got a series of plans: a plan to manufacture Tesla’s own battery; a plan to process the raw materials; even a plan to mine its own lithium.

And while some of those plans sounded genuinely impressive, some experts were left with the impression that Tesla was headed into uncharted waters without a clear sense of direction.

“I came out of it with a confused message about what they’re doing with the [battery] supply chain,” said Vivas Kumar, Tesla’s former battery supply chain manager and currently a principal at Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, during a post-battery day webinar.

The Verge reached out to a battery researcher, an automotive expert,

(Bloomberg) — Tesla Inc. is set to launch its first Model 3 sedan equipped with cheaper batteries in China as soon as Thursday, allowing it to cut the cost of vehicles and boost sales in the world’s largest electric-vehicle market, people familiar with the matter said.

The mass-market Model 3s with the new batteries from a Chinese supplier will sell for 249,900 yuan ($36,800) after government subsidies, bringing the starting price of Tesla’s basic model down by almost 10%, one of the people said. The cheapest current models are 271,550 yuan after subsidies.

Tesla  (TSLA) – Get Report has been seeking a stake in South Korean conglomerate LG’s battery operation, according to a report from the Korea Times.

LG makes batteries in its LG Chem division, but the battery business is being spun off into a new company – LG Energy Solutions. So electric carmaker Tesla would take a piece of LG Energy Solutions if a deal happens.

Tesla is looking for a stake of up to 10% in the battery maker, a source told the Korea Times.

Tesla shares traded Monday at $421.92, up 3.58%, and have skyrocketed 404% so far this year.

Meanwhile, Piedmont Lithium  (PLL) – Get Report was soaring Monday after the lithium company said Tesla agreed to buy spodumene concentrate, a raw material of lithium, from the company.

The initial agreement is for five years and may be extended for another five years, Piedmont

Tesla has announced new, internally-produced batteries for its electric cars, signaling a major shift from the automaker that, if successful, could significantly reduce the cost of electric vehicles.

Tesla’s new battery cell features a “tabless” design, which the company claims will provide five times the energy, six times the power, and 16% more range compared to its old battery cell.

The company’s current vehicles use batteries sourced from suppliers like Panasonic, where the energy stored in the battery pack is transferred to the car’s drivetrain via a conductive metal tab.

The new battery pack accomplishes the same thing by using a design that integrates a series of small bumps and spikes, which the company hopes will eliminate the
