(Bloomberg) — Sales of electric vehicles in Europe are growing at such a pace that the continent looks increasingly likely to outpace China in the near future.

That’s one of the findings of a report released Tuesday by London-based automotive research firm Jato Dynamics. However, it found that Europe and the U.S. still have a few things to learn from China, the world’s biggest EV market, including prioritizing affordability, centralizing planning, and using data to better understand consumers.

Demand for cleaner and smarter cars is rising globally, particularly in Europe where the market has been bolstered by tighter emissions regulations along with an increasing awareness of climate change. EV sales in Europe in the first half exceeded China for the first time since 2015.

Although the coronavirus pandemic hurt all car sales, including EVs, which fell 15% globally in the second quarter, the market for electric vehicles is

Fortnite creator Epic Games is partnering with carmakers, starting with General Motors, to use its Unreal Engine game development platform to build in-car software in what Epic is calling its “human-machine interface” (HMI) initiative. The first car to use Unreal Engine, which is the primary software toolset with which developers make Fortnite and countless other big-budget video games, will be GMC’s upcoming Hummer EV, set to be unveiled on October 20th.

The logic is simple: modern cars are primarily designed using software, and assembled cars carry scores of onboard computers and rely on touchscreens and digital interfaces to power infotainment centers and other sources of information displayed to drivers. And Unreal Engine is a great platform for building software, which Epic thinks makes it a great platform for building the software that goes into cars.

“When you sit in the driver’s seat of a modern car

STOCKHOLM — Electric vehicle maker Polestar, owned by Volvo Cars and its parent China’s Geely, is recalling all new Polestar 2 cars due to a software glitch, business daily Dagens Industri (DI) said on Friday.

The recall of close to 2,200 vehicles delivered so far will be made after several cars lost power and stopped running even while driving, the paper said.

“There have been no accidents or personal injury,” a Polestar spokesman told DI. “Brakes, steering and other systems are working as they should.”

The paper said all customers had been informed on Friday to fix the software issue as soon as possible at a service station.

This Battered iPad Fell Off A Car At 50mph

October 1, 2020 | technology | No Comments

An iPad mini that fell off a car travelling at high speed and smashed into pieces was – incredibly – still able to report its location to its owner.

Brand-protection specialist, Stuart Fuller, heard something hit the back of his car on a dark country lane and assumed it was a twig falling off a tree. Unluckily for Fuller, it was in fact the iPad mini that he’d accidentally left on top of his car.

Fuller, also chairman of non-league football club Lewes FC in England, was driving home from the club on Tuesday evening when he absent-mindedly left the iPad on top of the car before getting in. He managed to drive almost two miles up steep hills and around tight corners before the iPad mini finally fell off on the outskirts of Lewes.

At first,

  • Tokyo-based SkyDrive successfully tests flying car
  • Startup claims its prototype is the smallest flying car
  • The vehicle may be commercially available in 2023

A Toyota-backed Japanese startup has said it successfully tested a manned flying car prototype, crossing a major milestone in the race to a trillion dollar futuristic industry that could transform urban transport. SkyDrive expects to market its flying car in Japan in 2023.

The company said its prototype is the smallest electric flying car. About 6.5 feet tall and 13 feet wide, the SD-03 prototype is a little bigger than a standard sedan. It can carry up to 500 kilograms and travel up to 60 kilometers/hour.

It hovered in an enclosed field in Japan before landing safely, the company said. It runs on electric motors that charge four pairs of rotors, lights and other parts.

SkyDrive chief technology officer Nobuo Kishi said the vehicle will

The monumental Tesla Battery Day last week clearly wasn’t as monumental for some as they had expected. The day after the much-anticipated event, Tesla shares dropped by nearly 10%. This seems to be partly because the “million mile battery” wasn’t part of the presentation. The fickle investment community was hoping for an easily understood revolutionary announcement like an EV battery that will do a million miles without needing replacement. What they got instead was a series of incremental improvements based on technologies that were hard to understand and not very well explained. But the tail end of the Battery Day presentation was incredibly significant and foretells the final nail in the coffin of the traditional car industry based around fossil fuel propulsion.

Without much more than a single slide and a couple of sentences, Elon Musk delivered

Internet vs. Traditional Car Buying

May 4, 2020 | internet | No Comments

  1. Call, email or text the dealership of your choice, ask for the internet sales manager and describe what you’re looking for. If the car is in stock, you’ll have a quote within a few minutes at a price that is more competitive than you’d get by walking into the dealership. At worst, you’ll have a reply email in an hour, but at least you can go about your business.
  2. Find the car you want on Edmunds and enter in your contact information where it’s indicated. You’ll receive discounted prices upfront, followed by a call from a salesperson.
  3. Find the car you want on a dealership website and enter your contact information. An internet salesperson will be in touch shortly after to send you the price quote.

A side note about the frequency of salesperson calls and emails you may receive if you shop via the internet: We know the calls

How Car Mechanics Use Technology

May 1, 2020 | technology | No Comments

Do you know why it’s important to find a good mechanic or a good repair shop to repair your car? The reason: it could save you hundreds of dollars in parts and labor! When we say a “good mechanic” or a “good repair shop”, we’re referring to mechanics who are equipped with the latest technology. You don’t want to entrust your car to a shop with outdated machinery and equipment because it will take longer to arrive at a diagnosis. And the longer a mechanic takes to make a diagnosis, the larger your bill for labor!

Remember that car mechanics charge by the hour.

Car repairs can cover any one or a combination of the following (note that this is not a complete repair list).

• Air conditioning checks

• Air bag checks

• Electrical wiring

• Cables

• Clutch service and repair

• Transmission repair

• Wheel Alignment
