As disclosed on the specs page for Apple’s new HomePod mini, the diminutive speaker is Apple’s first to support Thread networking technology.

Thread is a low-power IP-based networking technology for connecting Internet of Things (IoT) devices, offering a secure, mesh-based system that makes it easy to build an ecosystem of devices.

While Thread is essentially agnostic to the application layers that run on top of it, it can support multiple layers and may play a role in Project Connected Home over IP, the alliance of Apple, Amazon, Google, and other companies that is seeking to make it simpler to build devices compatible with multiple ecosystems such as Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant.

For the time being, however, Apple says in a footnote that ‌HomePod‌ mini’s Thread support is limited to HomeKit devices, so the technology can’t yet be leveraged cross-platform and it remains to be seen how Apple will embrace

Earlier today, Chinese leaker “Kang” shared allegedly accurate information for the products set to be announced at the upcoming Apple event on October 13, including details on the full iPhone 12 lineup.

According to the leaker’s information, which was later modified with corrections for product availability timeframes, the 5.4-inch “‌iPhone 12‌ Mini” will be available to preorder on November 6 or 7, with a launch date of November 13 or 14.

Meanwhile, the 6.7-inch ‌iPhone 12‌ Pro Max will allegedly be available to preorder on November 13 or 14, with a launch date of November 20 or 21.

Bloomberg believes that Apple will stagger the iPhone launches in 2020, while DigiTimes has previously suggested the two 6.1-inch ‌iPhone 12‌ models could come out first in October, with the 6.7 and 5.4-inch models to follow. Leaker Jon Prosser today has also claimed DigiTimes was correct earlier in the year.

A new leak claims that Apple’s new “HomePod mini” will be half the height of the original, and details a release schedule for the whole of the “iPhone 12” range.

A leak originally posted on Chinese site Weibo but then relayed by previously accurate tweeter Ice Universe, claims to have full details of the rumored smaller HomePod, plus confirmation of the “iPhone 12” range Apple is expected to announce on October 13.

A translation of the original Weibo posting says, “HomePod Mini, priced at $99, 3.3-inch speaker, S5 processor.

Most places are scheduled for November 6/7, and will be released on 16/17. Please wait for the domestic release.”

The reference to a domestic release implies that these dates are for America, not China where the leak was posted.

At 3.3-inches, the HomePod mini would be just under half the height of the original HomePod. And at $99, it would

Genshin Impact is a free-to-play action RPG available for PS4, PC, and both Android and iOS devices. The game has managed to make a splash in the traditionally crowded fall season thanks in part to its The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild-looking visuals and world.

In the video above, Max Blumenthal takes on one of Genshin Impact’s mini-bosses. In Genshin Impact, you play with a party of up to four characters, each of whom have control of the element of ice, fire, water, wind, electricity, or earth.

Genshin Impact has its detractors, largely because the game is driven by gacha mechanics. Gacha games are a lot like games that revolve around loot boxes in that they encourage players to use real-world money to buy in-game currency, which can then be spent to receive a random virtual item–in most cases (like Genshin Impact), a new character.

Apple will use mini LED for the backlight of a “high-end MacBook” in late 2021, a report claims, a device that will follow after the launch of a 12.9-inch iPad Pro using the display technology in early 2021.

Osram Opto Semiconductors is reportedly going to become Apple’s second supplier of mini LED chips alongside Epistar, according to people familiar with the matter. The supply of mini LED chips from Osram will apparently start in 2021, with the chips intended for an updated MacBook model which would ship in the second half of 2021.

The industry sources of DigiTimes claim the 12.9-inch iPad Pro will use mini LED backlights, and will ship in early 2021, with each using over 10,000 mini LEDs. Epistar is thought to be ready to produce mini LEDs, with a production line for making blue-light LEDs modified for creating the smaller components during the third quarter

Rumors suggest Apple’s iPhone 12 launch event will be held on October 13, with the more affordable 5.4 and 6.1-inch devices set to ship out ahead of the more expensive 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch Pro devices, and this morning hit-and-miss leaker Jon Prosser has further committed to that date by providing alleged details on Apple’s first shipment of finalized ‌iPhone 12‌ units.

Prosser claims the initial shipment of ‌iPhone 12‌ units will go out to distributors on October 5 in advance of the launch event, and this will include the 5.4-inch ‌iPhone 12‌ “mini” – which he says is “definitely the final marketing name” – and the lower end 6.1-inch ‌iPhone 12‌ model. Prosser asserts that the two higher-end Pro models will be announced at the same event but will ship later in November.

Prosser also claims that the more affordable models will come in 64, 128, and 256GB storage capacities,
