GHOST NATION

Jason Hawes, Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango are back for more adventures to the other side in a new season of “Ghost Nation.” This season’s locations have bigger mysteries, are more chilling and have never been investigated on television. And this time, they are calling in an old friend for some help – paranormal investigator Shari DeBenedetti. On all investigations, collecting evidence is just the beginning. Huawei has tweeted that it will reveal its Mate 40 series on October 22nd, likely the last of its phones to have Kirin chips— at least for the foreseeable future— due to the ongoing economic pressure from the US.

Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business unit, said at a conference August 7th that “this year may be the last generation of Huawei Kirin high-end chips.” The US has accused Huawei of building backdoors into network infrastructure, ostensibly to aid Chinese government spying efforts. Huawei has denied the Trump administration’s accusations of spying.

But the Trump administration placed Huawei and 114 of its affiliates on its Entity List in May 2019, which meant US firms were unable to sell technology to the company without explicit US government approval.

It also meant Google was barred from doing business with Huawei, preventing Huawei from obtaining an Android license, and keeping Google apps

Huawei is about to unveil its next big phone — and a swan song of sorts. The Chinese tech giant has announced that it will reveal the Mate 40 phone series at a virtual event on October 22nd at 8AM Eastern. It didn’t say much about what the new Mates would entail (“unprecedented power” isn’t really a clue), but it’s safe to say that the processor will be the most talked-about feature.

The company has already confirmed that the Mate 40 will be its last phone with a high-end Kirin chip, at least for a while. Now that the US has slapped Huawei with trade restrictions that led chip manufacturers like TSMC to back away, the company simply doesn’t have access to cutting edge processing tech for future models. The 5-nanometer Kirin chip in the Mate 40 expected to be fast and efficient, but it’s not expect to reach other

Library of Congress photo of Henriette AvramHenriette Davidson Avram didn’t set out to revolutionize libraries, but that’s what she did.

Born in Manhattan in 1919, Avram had visions of a career in medicine and began premedical studies at Hunter College in the 1930s. She switched gears to study mathematics at George Washington University after her family relocated to the the Washington, DC area in 1951.

In 1952, Avram began working at the National Security Agency, where her husband Herbert Mois Avram also worked. There, she learned computer programming as part of an early computer research program, which she later described as a “bootstrap operation.”

After a stint as a systems analyst at Datatrol Corporation, Avram joined the Library of Congress’ Office of the Information Systems Specialist in 1965. She was asked to lead a team tasked with analyzing cataloging data to determine if it could be computerized.

The team developed the MARC format, Machine Readable Cataloging,

A new month means a new round of free PlayStation Plus games. Starting later today, PS Plus subscribers can claim Vampyr and Need for Speed Payback. You still have a few days to add September’s free games to your library, so make sure to snag them if you haven’t already.

Developed by Dontnod Entertainment–the studio behind the Life is Strange series–Vampyr is an action-RPG that flew under the radar when it released in 2018. You play as Dr. Jonathan Reid, a man who took a hippocratic oath to help the citizens of London but now finds himself a newly turned vampire. This understandably creates a moral dilemma, and there’s also a widespread influenza outbreak that is threatening the population. Your choices in Vampyr truly matter, altering both the gameplay and the story. It earned a 7/10 in GameSpot’s Vampyr review.
