WIU Offering Alternative to Safe Trick-Or-Treat Programming

October 14, 2020

MACOMB, IL – University Housing and Dining Services (UHDS) at Western Illinois University will sponsor an alternative to the annual Residence Halls Safe Trick-or-Treat program.

Community and campus parents and guardians, with children between the ages 2-12, are invited to sign up for a Halloween goody bag, containing pre-wrapped candy, coloring pages and activities, and other Halloween-related items, to celebrate with at home. The bags are not gender or age specific.

Goody bags are limited, so children should sign up soon at bit.ly/UHDSGoodyBags.

“During COVID-19, we still wanted to find a way to connect to the campus and community to help the children have a safe and fun Halloween.” said WIU Director of Residence Life Mishelle Oaks. “We hope to be back next year with our annual safe trick-or-treat event in the residence halls.”

Goody bags will be available for

Millions of Americans on low-income, including those receiving unemployment benefits amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, may qualify to receive a free smartphone, in addition to free cell service, under a new government partnership with TruConnect, a nationwide wireless service provider.

TruConnect has partnered with Lifeline, a government program offering affordable wireless service to low-income customers launched by President Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, which most Americans don’t know about, according to the co-founder and chief executive officer of TruConnect, Matthew Johnson.

TruConnect’s free service includes “talk, text, and 3GB of data each month plus free international calling to select countries. You may even qualify for a free 5″ LTE Android smartphone,” the company website states.

Johnson told California’s KTLA: “Currently, there are roughly 30 to 40 million people who don’t have access to high-speed internet and that’s only increased recently with the issues due to COVID-19.

“Across the U.S., the

Nothing makes me feel quite as impulsive as a good online sale. There’s always so many exclamation points; everything is on the brink of selling out; and I somehow always seem to want an item that has the words “low in stock” next to it. I throw things into my cart digitally (and physically back when that was a thing) with no semblance of my budget in mind. It’s what my mother calls reckless but what I call saving money. Neither of us is entirely in the wrong.

Nordstrom has a way of particularly sending me off the deep end because its sales are always so major with items that go out of stock instantly. But I never spend the time doing the research that I should to confirm I’m getting the best price, and I speak with experience when I say there is no worse feeling

Optus announced on Friday a new routing product named Game Path where NBN users will be able to pay AU$10 a month for fewer hops of their traffic.

The company is targeting gamers, with users needing to run an application in Windows to take advantage of it. The Singaporean-owned telco said Game Path can “reduce lag on average by 30% — which can mean the difference between life and death in a PC game”.

Optus told ZDNet it was not using any traffic prioritisation, explaining that NBN connections would remain TC-4. Instead, traffic will travel over the fastest available path “using proxy technology, choosing the most optimal/lowest latency path for gaming traffic across the internet”.

“It does this by accessing hundreds of POPs all over the world and constantly analysing the fastest path to gaming servers,” a spokesperson said.

“This will create the most benefit when considering
