October 13, 2020 | software | No Comments

Selecting the right software is one of the most critical and daunting tasks businesses face. Today most industries have easily identifiable software frontrunners, yet the private wealth- and family office segment still suffers from fragmentation, a lack of clarity and transparency.

For many family offices, the process can be time and resource-intensive — with limitations discovered after purchase, having serious consequences for productivity and costs. According to Bijan Farsijani, who heads research & insights at Simple, “Choosing software solutions for family offices is a pain – not least because providers and family offices speak different languages.

When Google announced last month it was pulling the plug on a lease for a new office space in Dublin, Ireland, it set off alarm bells.

Google is a large presence in Dublin’s “Silicon Docks,” where it holds its European headquarters, a part of the city around the docklands area where a who’s who of Big Tech are located, including Facebook, Twitter and Airbnb.

But during the coronavirus pandemic and with the need for remote working, questions are being raised about the viability of large office spaces. Google said it remains committed to Dublin — where it has over 8,000 workers — and has purchased two more buildings that it still plans to fill.

The commercial property market in Dublin slumped in the second quarter as the country was in the depths of lockdown, according to real estate firm CBRE, which reported just 15

Facebook moderators employed by third-party contracting firm Accenture and based in Austin, Texas are being forced to return to the office on October 12th, The Verge has learned.

Employees, almost all of whom are contractors, were instructed of the new policy at a company-wide town hall meeting today, say multiple people familiar with Accenture’s plans. Accenture, which has allowed its workforce of hundreds of moderators to work from home since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has not given the employees a reason for why they must return to the office. Accenture did not take questions at the town hall meeting, telling concerned employees that it would schedule a second call to answer COVID-specific questions regarding matters like sick leave and time off. High-risk workers are being asked to make alternate arrangements, and will not have to come in.

Facebook has an estimated 15,000 paid contractors almost entirely employed by

(Bloomberg) — Microsoft said Office 365, Teams and some of its other online services are experiencing service interruptions.

A company spokesman confirmed the outages, which are also impacting Exchange Online and OneDrive. He didn’t have any information on the reason or the time it will take to get the services up and running again.

Problems with some of these services were reported earlier on Monday by Downdetector, which aggregates user reports of issues. That suggests the outages have lasted at least two hours.

Office 365 packages popular Microsoft software such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel into an online subscription. Teams is a collaboration tool that integrates with Office 365. The disruption follows a similar incident last week when some users of Google’s G Suite cloud productivity tools experienced errors.

The outages may be more disruptive at the moment because so many people are working and studying remotely. Microsoft and Google’s

The outage was first reported by Twitter users, most of whom complained that Outlook was not working. Data from downdetector.com indicated that Outlook and Microsoft’s wider range of Office products were affected.

Microsoft said Monday evening that it had identified the issue (an authentication error) and was attempting to rollback recent changes, but that the outage

Sept. 28 (UPI) — Microsoft reported a service interruption Monday evening for Microsoft 365 programs, the company said.

“Users [are] unable to access Outlook.com, Microsoft Teams including Teams Live Events, and Office.com.,” the company said on its website. “Additionally, Power Platform and Dynamics365 properties are affected by this incident.”

“We’re not observing an increase in successful connections after rolling back a recent change. We’re working to evaluate additional mitigation solutions while we investigate the root cause,” the company tweeted.

The problem was first reported around 5 p.m. Eastern time, according to Down Detector, a website that tracks internet outages.

Users complained that even apps such as SharePoint, OneDrive and Noodle, which required a Microsoft email login, were unresponsive Monday night. Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing network was also inaccessible, users said.

“I don’t know if my file was saved and uploaded to the cloud properly,” posted a PowerPoint user with

  • The coronavirus hit to office space will surpass the financial crisis, with a net loss of up to 95 million square feet of unoccupied real estate from Q2 2020 to Q3 2021, according to a new forecast from Cushman & Wakefield.
  • The steepest level of vacancies will occur in the U.S., Canada and European countries in the coming years at a net negative level of over 200 million square feet.
  • The number of permanent remote workers, and hybrid workers, will increase over time, but population and economic growth, as well as concentration in knowledge-based work, should lead to a full recovery in the next decade.
