Effective immediately, Apple isn’t shipping EarPods or a 5W power adapter with any of the iPhone models that it sells itself, including the iPhone SE that was released in April 2020.

The company at its Oct. 13 keynote event announced a series of new environmental initiatives to reach a 100% carbon neutral footprint by 2030. Part of that, Apple VP Lisa Jackson explained, was removing the EarPods and power adapters from iPhone models.

But that doesn’t just apply to the new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro lineups. On Apple’s website, the company indicates that it won’t bundle headphones or charging bricks with the iPhone SE, iPhone 11, or iPhone XR.

“As part of our efforts to reach our environmental goals, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini do not include a power adapter or EarPods. Please use your current Apple power adapter and headphones, or purchase these accessories separately,” Apple

In a tweet on Tuesday, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested that the Cupertino tech giant would also stop shipping charging bricks with previously released iPhone models that “it’ll keep selling.”

Although Gurman doesn’t specify, his prediction suggests that Apple will — or already has — change the packaging for current

When talk of a possible TikTok ban began in July, the leaders of a small social video app called Triller saw a growth opportunity.

To attract users, the company set its sights on TikTok’s biggest names. Some of the Sway Boys, a group of TikTok influencers, had been toying with the idea of building their own app to compete with TikTok, but after a discussion with Ryan Kavanaugh, the majority owner of Triller and a veteran entertainment executive, they decided the platform could be good for them.

Triller offered the creators a deal: Tell your audience on TikTok that you’re moving to Triller, and we’ll give you equity and roles within the company. You can still post on TikTok, they were told, but only if you post on Triller more frequently. The House Judiciary antitrust subcommittee released its report after investigating Big Tech.

Andrew Hoyle/CNET

Lawmakers from the US House of Representatives accused Facebook, Amazon, Google and Apple of “abuses of monopoly power” in a 449-page report released Tuesday. The House Judiciary antitrust subcommittee drew its conclusions after a 16-month investigation that culminated in an hours-long hearing with Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Apple’s Tim Cook and Google’s Sundar Pichai in July that featured tense exchanges portending a more critical view of Big Tech.

The report calls for restructuring and several other changes to rein in the companies. One recommendation tries to make it tougher for tech giants to buy up smaller companies that consolidates the industry. A “nondiscrimination requirements” suggestion aims to stop platforms from prioritizing their own products over those of rivals. The subcommittee also calls for the strengthening of antitrust laws and enforcement.
